Meet Dr. Jared Cattron, Board Certified Pediatric Dentist

Dr. Jared Cattron was raised in Montana and Idaho. He received his DMD from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 2009 and completed a pediatric residency in 2017.  Having spent many years as a general dentist, he gained a unique perspective that makes him a great pediatric dentist. Dr. Cattron has his certificate in Cultural Competency Program for Oral Health Professionals.  Dr. Cattron is a board-certified (ABPD, AAPD) Pediatric Dentist, as well as an active member of both AZDA and ADA.

Dr. Jared Cattron is committed to providing a kid-friendly dental experience for all, from infants, adolescents, tweens, and teens.  He has built a dental team that is invested in ensuring our young patients are engaged, educated, and excited about their happy teeth.  Dr. Cattron loves working with patients and parents for a team approach to your children’s oral care as well as tooth and gum health.

It was while working with kids and adults in a low-income clinic that he found his true mission.  He was heartbroken to find so many of his adult patients had experienced traumatizing dental treatment as children, and now avoided the dentist at all costs. They typically came in only when the pain and infection was so severe, it became necessary to extract their teeth.  These adult patients were eager to bring their children to a kid-friendly Dentist they trusted.  Their children often had severe cavities, but the visits went well.  Dr. Cattron loved how a smile, a high five and a hug could turn even a difficult dental visit into a positive experience for these kids. Dr. Cattron knew he could make the greatest impact by giving each child an amazing dental experience and not fear coming to the dentist. Ever since, his passion has been pediatric dentistry.

When not at work, Dr. Cattron is still surrounded by kids. He and his wife Jennifer have four children. He often says that raising children was the best training he could receive to become a great pediatric dentist!

Dr. Cattron loves working with his wife Dr. Jenn Cattron. Together, they love helping children build confidence through good oral hygiene and happy smiles.

Dr. Cattron has many fun hobbies. Topping the list are family fishing trips, playing softball, and a yearly vegetable garden with his kids.

While regular dental hygiene practices like brushing and flossing are essential, nutrition also plays an important role in ensuring strong and healthy teeth. At Parkland Pediatric Dental, we’d be happy to discuss with you ways to improve your child’s dental health via nutrition. Here’s a look at some of the ways that nutrition impacts children’s dental health. Calcium and Strong Teeth Calcium is a mineral that plays a key role in the development and maintenance of strong teeth and bones. It is an essential component of tooth enamel, the protective outer layer of teeth. Dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt are excellent sources of calcium. Incorporating sufficient levels of calcium into your child’s diet helps in the formation of strong teeth that are better equipped to resist decay. Vitamin D for Tooth Development Vitamin D is crucial for the absorption of calcium in the body. Sunlight is a natural source of vitamin D, and foods like fatty fish, egg yolks, and fortified dairy products are also good dietary sources. Adequate vitamin D intake is necessary for the proper development of teeth, ensuring they grow strong and healthy. Phosphorus and Tooth Mineralization Phosphorus, another essential mineral, works in tandem with calcium to promote optimal tooth mineralization. It is found in abundance in foods like fish, nuts, and dairy products. Including a variety of phosphorus-rich foods in a child's diet contributes to the formation of robust tooth structure. Limiting Sugar Intake The role of sugar in dental cavities is well-established. Bacteria in the mouth feed on sugars, producing acids that erode tooth enamel and lead to cavities. Limiting the intake of sugary snacks, sodas, and candies helps reduce the risk of tooth decay. Instead, encourage children to opt for fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains as healthier alternatives.
